Energy Minister emphasizes commitment of govt to increase share of renewable energy in Ghana’s energy mix
The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has held discussions with Denmark’s Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Jakos Linulf on strategic areas of collaboration between Ghana and Denmark in the energy sector, in Accra.

Their engagement focused on exploring opportunities to leverage Denmark’s vast experience in renewable energy, particularly through the Danish Energy Agency, to support Ghana’s green transition agenda.

Mr. Linulf reaffirmed Denmark’s interest in supporting Ghana through knowledge transfer and capacity building for sector experts and policymakers.

The Energy Minister further emphasized the commitment of the Government of Ghana, under President John Dramani Mahama, to increasing the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix.

“I also highlighted Ghana’s investor-friendly renewable energy policies aimed at attracting investment to accelerate our green transition efforts,” he wrote on Facebook after the meeting.

At a separate forum, the Minister said that going into 2026, the Minister of Energy and Green Transaition, John Jinapor, has said that his priorities remain clear: delivering stable, reliable, and affordable electricity; strengthening transmission and distribution; expanding generation capacity to meet growing demand.

He said this after a performance retreat that brought together the leadership of the agencies under the ministry to review the performance in 2025 and to plan strategically for 2026.

The retreat provided a critical platform to reflect honestly on our progress, address challenges, and align on clear, actionable priorities to deliver results for the people of Ghana.

“When I assumed office in January 2025, the energy sector faced serious challenges across both the power and petroleum sectors.

“Today, I am encouraged by the progress made, including sustained power stability with no recent loadshedding and the restoration of investor confidence in the upstream petroleum sector. Improved collaboration across the sector has played a key role in these gains,” Jinapor wrote on Facebook after the meeting.

As we look ahead to 2026, he added “my priorities remain clear: delivering stable, reliable, and affordable electricity; strengthening transmission and distribution; expanding generation capacity to meet growing demand; accelerating renewable energy deployment as part of our green transition; revitalising the upstream petroleum sector; driving the revamp of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company to enhance energy security, domestic value addition, and job creation.”

He further emphasised accountability, performance, and results-driven leadership as they work together “to build a resilient, sustainable, and forward-looking energy sector that supports Ghana’s development.”
