It’s all over at the 113 polling centres in the Ayawaso East Constituency of the Greater Accra Region and officers of the Electoral Commission have packed out after supervising the Ayawaso East Constituency by-election.
After what has been described as a low turnout poll, the 16,928 out of 50,000 voters have decided that Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed should represent them in the 9th Parliament of the Republic of Ghana to serve the unexpired term of Nasser Toure Mahama who died in January.
Baba Jamal secured 10,884 votes representing 63 per cent to win the contest.
His closest contender was Baba Ali Yusif of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who garnered 4,009 representing 23 per cent.

The election, held on March 3, was incident-free probably due to the huge Police presence.
Stalwarts of the main political parties- New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC). Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, former NDC Chairman, Linda Akweley Ocloo, Greater Accra Regional Minister, Tanko Computer, Director of Elections of NDC among others, were seen supervision the poll. From the NPP side, former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko and former Fisheries Minister, Hawa Koomson were at some polling centres.
With this victory, Baba Jamal is expected to be sworn in by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, at the next sitting of the House.
