'Leading Ghana to the World Cup will be an unforgettable memory in my life' – Carlos Queiroz
Newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed his deep emotional connection to Africa and his pride at taking charge of Ghana, as he begins a new chapter with the national team.

The experienced Portuguese tactician arrived in Ghana on Wednesday and is expected to be officially unveiled to the public later today. During his introduction to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, Queiroz shared heartfelt remarks that underlined both his personal ties to the continent and his ambition for the Black Stars.

“To be part of this sports family is an honor and a privilege for me.

I have very strong African roots. I was born and raised in Africa, Mozambique.

To lead this African country [Ghana] to the World Cup will be an unforgettable memory in my life,” he said.

Queiroz replaces Otto Addo and steps into the role at a critical time, with the immediate task of stabilising the team and preparing them for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

His initial mandate is to guide Ghana through the tournament, with the possibility of earning a long-term contract depending on his performance.

The Black Stars will first regroup in May for pre-World Cup friendly matches against Wales and Mexico, providing Queiroz an early opportunity to assess his squad and implement his philosophy ahead of the tournament in June.

Ghana has been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

The new coach will be aiming to reverse the nation’s recent struggles at the global stage, having failed to progress beyond the group stage in their last two World Cup appearances.

With his vast experience and emotional connection to Africa, Queiroz’s appointment signals a renewed sense of hope for Ghanaian football fans as the team prepares for the biggest stage in world football.
