Former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has formally filed his nomination to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership, making a passionate appeal to delegates to focus on the party’s future rather than public opinion about his candidacy.
Addressing party supporters after submitting his forms on Wednesday, August 27, Mr. Agyapong stressed that the choice delegates make will ultimately determine the NPP’s chances in the 2028 general election.
“I'm on my knees, I beg you in the name of God, do not listen to what Ghanaians are saying. Vote for Kennedy Agyapong, and victory will be assured for the NPP in 2028. Wherever you go, Ghanaians are crying for Kennedy Agyapong. Don't allow anyone to intimidate you. Party victory is paramount, so let us unite and select a candidate who can deliver,” he declared.
Mr. Agyapong warned delegates not to give in to what he described as intimidation and selfish interests within the party, insisting that the NPP’s path to victory rests on unity and his candidacy.
His declaration comes at a critical moment for the NPP, which is seeking a new leader capable of reviving its fortunes following the crushing defeat in the 2024 elections.
