DCE OF NADOWLI- KALEO URGES PUPILS TO PRIORITISE EDUCATION ON THE OCCASION OF "MY FIRST DAY IN SCHOOL"
The first day of school in the Nadowli-Kaleo District witnessed a special visit from the District Chief Executive (DCE), Madam Mary Haruna, accompanied by the District Director of Education, the District Coordinating Director, and a team of district officers. The officials toured several schools within the district to interact with teachers and pupils and to motivate them and promote the importance of education.

The visit comes in the wake of growing concerns over drastically declining educational standards in the district. During the recent session of the District Assembly, Hon. Madam Haruna highlighted the alarming drop in academic performance and pledged to work closely with the Education Directorate, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to reverse the trend.

Speaking to the pupils, the DCE cautioned them against abandoning their education in pursuit of quick financial gains, particularly through illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey. She reminded the pupils that all prominent personalities today achieved their success through dedication to education.

“Do you want to drive the big cars that the successful people in our society drive?” she asked the pupils, who eagerly responded in the affirmative. She emphasised that education, hard work, and discipline are the keys to achieving such success and promised to visit schools regularly to monitor attendance. "Pupils who maintain full attendance throughout the term will be recognised and rewarded", she assured them.

The District Director of Education also urged pupils to remain disciplined and attentive, both in school and at home. He reinforced that education is the only pathway to independence and personal responsibility in life.

During the visit, the team engaged with students at Kaleo Baptist and Sombo Catholic Primary schools. Pupils were motivated further with snacks, especially those who reported on the reopening day.

The initiative reflects the district’s commitment to reviving academic standards and encouraging students to embrace learning as a lifelong tool for success.
