Don’t rush CJ vetting, let legal process end first – Ahiagbah appeals to Speaker

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has called on the Speaker of Parliament to show restraint and patience in the ongoing vetting process of Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Ahiagbah urged the Speaker to allow due legal processes concerning the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo to reach a natural conclusion before proceeding further with the vetting.

“I want to appeal that the Speaker, he is a seasoned parliamentarian, a statesman, and highly respected. I think that, in this moment, he should lead and say that there is no hurry. Let’s see the finality in these cases and then move on,” Ahiagbah said.

He cautioned that rushing the process while the legal challenge remains unresolved could raise unnecessary controversy and potentially undermine public confidence in Parliament’s independence and fairness.

“But until that is done, any effort now to just push this thing through, I think that would leave a bad taste,” he added.
